Astra makes the disaster insurance available online

Astra Asigurări is the first local company to provide Romanians with the option of concluding mandatory disaster insurance directly online. The policy may be acquired by accessing the www.astraonline.ro portal, declared the company. In accordance with the law, the mandatory policy covers a maximum Euro 10,000 damage (for the contribution of Euro 10/year) or of Euro 20,000 (for the contribution of Euro 20/year). Under such conditions, a significant part of the owners will have to also conclude an optional insurance to cover any potential full damage. “Aside from the vehicle liability insurance, we can also provide home and family insurance, for an affordable price, that may get owners interested in concluding an optional insurance to also cover other risks for which they will be compensated in the shortest time possible and in accordance with the actual price", declared Radu Mustăţea, president of the Astra Asigurări directorate.

The number of home owners with mandatory disaster insurance may amount to one million by the end of this year. “We would like to exceed 10% of the total number of homes in the following six months. This means that we should have one million insured by January”, said Marius Bulugea, president of the Disaster Insurance Pool (PAID). The share could increase to approximately 20% of the total homes (over 1.7 million homes) after the first 12 months of activity. At this time, the PAID electronic system includes 10% of homes, and the share will increase to 70% after the first year of activity. After the first two-three years of activity, that is after it manages to operate under full capacity, PAID could collect over Euro 160 million each year from disaster insurance.
