One school and two kindergartens damaged by flood and rebuilt by insurance companies
The locality that was damaged most in Romania due to the floods in June-July 2010, Săuceşti commune in Bacău county, now has a new school and kindergarten, built by insurance companies and the Insurer Supervisory Commission (CSA).
Pupils and pre-schoolers in Şerbeşti village received stationary, clothes, computers, as well as insurance policies that were created especially for them at the beginning of the new school year. Furthermore, the village school will be protected by a policy insuring all repair or re-building costs, if other extreme Acts of God should occur.
"We are proud of our accomplishments. In the future, we will carry out more such social responsibilities actions”, declared Radu Mustatea, Astra president.
"We wanted to help children have a nice new school year and we were faced with real excitment when they got their gifts. An extremely damaged building was consolidated. We changed the roof, the floors and the rotted panels on the walls", said Adina Băcioiu, ARDAF managing director. “This will certainly not be our last campaign. We will get involved in other similar projects, by granting compensation within the meaning of insurance policies”, she added.
The efforts of the insurance campaigns were not only focused on re-building, but also on the promotion of the home insurance concept - the most simple and efficient protection instrument against Acts of God, calamities, fire or explosions.
“We provided pupils with a clean school that smells new and fresh, as well as with insurance policies”, declared Angela Toncescu, CSA president.
Blăgeşti village also benefited from the support of insurers for a new kindergarten. “The kindergarten was almost entirely rebuilt. Furthermore, children now have running water and bathroom facilities", declared Lucica Lupu, the principal of the unit of education. The works lasted for approximately one month and they were “a sign from heaven”, according to the mayor, Laurenţiu Munteanu.
The parents were thrilled by this initiative. “I am extremely happy. The building finally looks like it should. Until now I was afraid to send my child to kindergarten, especially in winter, when it was extremely cold”, declared Cătălina Lăscăroiu, the mother of one of the pre-schoolers in Blăgeşti.
"This campaign is the first solidarity action of insurance companies. We hope it will also be an extremely good instrument for the promotion of life, assets and property insurance products”, said Adrian Marin, Generali representative.
Despite the fact that the school year has started, 20% of the education units in Bacău county have not been issued their sanitary operating permit.
Angela Toncescu, CSA president and the representatives of companies such as ARDAF (Adina Băcioiu, Deputy Managing Director), ASIROM (Ion Gheorghe Brătulescu, Deputy Managing Director), ASTRA Asigurări (Radu Mustăţea, Directorate President), BCR Asigurări (Mihail Tecău, Directorate President), CARPATICA Asig (Mihaela Stupu, Deputy Managing Director), CITY Insurance (Nicolae Muşat, Managing Director), EUROINS (Iulius Alin Bucşă, Managing Director), FATA Asigurări (Diego de Genarro, Managing Director), GARANTA (Marian Baches, Managing Director), GENERALI (Adrian Marin, General Insurance Director), GROUPAMA (Ştefan Dicu, Deputy Managing Director), OMNIASIG (Constantin Toma, Directorate President), PLATINUM Asigurări (Anca Babaneata, Deputy CEO) and UNIQA Asigurări (Ileana Horvath, Directorate President) participated in the opening of the three units of education in Bacău .
